Malatesta Paladino

Our Leadership

Michael Paladino
President

I entered the construction industry at the age of 17, learning the trade hands-on through my family business. My early experience involved chopping, forming, and pouring concrete, which laid the foundation for my future in the field. I worked alongside my family until 1983. In 1985, I met Carmine Malatesta, who was working independently in masonry at the time. After successfully bidding on our first project in New York City, we decided to partner. Our first project together involved building a chimney and a basement concrete floor. On Good Friday, April 5, 1985, we officially formed Malatesta Paladino, Inc.

Our clients were in Queens, Manhattan, Long Island, and Brooklyn. Through hard work, dedication, and 12-hour workdays, six days a week, we steadily grew over the years. After 15 years of dependable service, we brought John Novello into the partnership to help us manage our expanding operations. Over the next decade, we became leaders in concrete restoration, maintaining our loyal client base while attracting new business through referrals. This increased recognition opened the door to larger and more complex projects.

Pat Pallentino, who joined us right out of high school, began as an apprentice and worked his way up to foreman. Eventually, he became our newest partner, further strengthening our leadership team. Together, we continue to grow and adapt to the evolving demands of life and construction in New York City.

Through perseverance, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to quality, I’ve witnessed Malatesta Paladino transform from humble beginnings into one of the most respected firms in the industry. This recognition is something I deeply value, and I am committed to ensuring that our legacy endures for the next 40 years and beyond.

God bless America.

John Novello
Vice President

I began my career with Malatesta Paladino in 1986, starting as a carpenter’s helper while working nights for a dry-cleaning business. It was during one of those deliveries that I met Carmine Malatesta, who would eventually become my business partner. He asked for my contact information for future work.

About a month later, I received a call from Carmine at 3 AM on a Sunday, asking if I could start immediately. After connecting with Michael Paladino, who provided directions, I began working that same morning at 5 AM. With the mentorship of Carmine and Michael, I embarked on my journey in the concrete and masonry industry.

Starting as a carpenter, I quickly advanced under their guidance, taking on roles as a foreman, project manager, and estimator. Over the years, I gained extensive field experience, working my way up through the company. Together, Carmine, Michael, and I have completed numerous large-scale projects for clients that we continue to serve today. Our partnership also involved navigating the complexities of property management, handling New York City's zoning regulations.

Now, over 38 years later, I take pride in having contributed to the growth and expansion of Malatesta Paladino’s client base. However, my most fulfilling achievement is helping to train and mentor the next generation of craftsmen, foremen, and leaders, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to carry our legacy forward. As we build on more than 40 years of dedicated service to our clients, I look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence for years to come.

My connection with Malatesta Paladino began long before I joined the company. During my middle and high school years, I spent a lot of time at the Paladino home, where I was inspired by Michael Paladino’s incredible work ethic. Watching him transition seamlessly from job sites to working around his home left a lasting impression on me. By the age of 14, my curiosity had grown, and I asked Michael if I could join him at work. In the summer of 1992, between 10th and 11th grade, I got my first shot. Without a car or a driver’s license, Michael picked me up every morning, and I worked on sidewalks and projects across the five boroughs.

That summer was an eye-opening experience. I got to know Carmine Malatesta, John Novello, and the rest of the crew. I loved the work so much that I couldn't wait for my next school break to rejoin them. During my senior year, I continued to work during holidays and jumped into full-time work the day after graduating high school.

Over the next decade, Michael, Carmine, and John taught me every facet of the business—from concrete work and carpentry to operating machinery, managing jobs, and eventually handling day-to-day operations. In 2014, they extended me the incredible opportunity to become a partner, which I accepted with immense gratitude.

My goal is to uphold the work ethic, quality, and growth that have been the cornerstones of Malatesta Paladino for over 40 years while continuing to mentor and build the next generation of this extraordinary company.
