Project Date: September 15, 2023
Client: Osborne Hotel
Location: 205 W. 57th St., New York, NY
Malatesta Paladino was contracted to perform critical sidewalk, curb, and vault repairs at the historic Osborne Hotel, located at 205 W. 57th St. in New York City. This project presented unique challenges due to its high-traffic location above an active subway line and adjacent to a major transportation hub for express and routine bus services connecting the west and east sides of Manhattan.
Key Project Features:
- Vault Repairs: Major repairs were carried out on the underground vaults, ensuring structural integrity and safety, while managing the complexities of working above an active MTA/NYC Transit Subway line.
- Holiday Season Coordination: The project took place during the busy holiday season, requiring careful scheduling and logistics to minimize disruptions to the high volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area.
- Collaborative Effort: We worked closely with multiple city agencies, including the MTA, NYCT, DOT, DOB, and Con Edison, to ensure seamless coordination and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Sidewalk and Curb Upgrades: The sidewalks and curbs were fully restored, improving both safety and accessibility for pedestrians, while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of this historic location.
Despite the challenges of working over critical infrastructure and in a densely trafficked area, the project was completed on time and in full compliance with safety and operational standards. The result is a renewed and structurally sound sidewalk and vault system that enhances the safety and convenience of one of Manhattan’s busiest intersections.
